YMCA of Singapore Appoints New General Secretary & CEO

YMCA of Singapore is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Steve Loh as General Secretary & CEO starting from 15 August 2018.

Mr Loh brings with him a unique blend of management, entrepreneurial and leadership experience gained from global missions, social service as well as from the media industry. He has garnered substantial expertise in managing operations, instituting governance and conducting business restructuring, while emphasising the need to value and develop people.

Mr Loh comes with over 10 good years of leadership experience with international NGO, Youth With A Mission (YWAM) and locally registered charity Mercy Centre, where he concurrently held several portfolios including:

• CEO and board member of Mercy Centre, Singapore, which engages in rapid rescue and relief services in international disaster zones, serving the homeless in Singapore, providing skills and character development in prisons and holistically empowering former street ladies into new ways of life.

• Director of YWAM Medical Ships, Singapore, responsible for pioneering and managing medical vessels that deliver critical healthcare services and education to remote regions.

• Leader at YWAM Training Centre / University of Nations, involved in sanctioning and leading courses, recruitment and staff training. He was also Director of the YWAM Discipleship Training School till 2015.

Prior to his service in YWAM and Mercy Centre, Mr Loh founded and managed his own company, Scribe Media, for seven successful years. He has also worked for a global media organization, Transworld International, IMG as a senior producer / presenter and was also the News Editor & Head of Department for Sports at SAFRA RADIO.

To further enhance his volunteering spirit, Mr Loh currently serves as an auxiliary officer in the Singapore Civil Defence Emergency Medical Services, operating as an ambulance medic. 

Mr Loh graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Journalism & Political Science. Being an active sportsman, he was a member of the university rugby team which won the regional championships.

He is married with two children and attends St John’s St Margaret’s Anglican Church since 1976, where he serves as a Home Cell Group Pastor since 2005.
