Mr. Cecil Wong
It is with profound sadness that the YMCA of Singapore mourns the passing of Mr. Cecil Wong, a distinguished leader and one of our longest-serving Board of Director. Mr Wong’s unwavering dedication and contributions left an indelible legacy not only within the YMCA of Singapore but also across Singapore’s social service sector.
Mr. Wong’s remarkable journey with the YMCA spanned many years as both a long-serving Board of Director and Trustee. His trust and support were instrumental in securing our 1980s building loan, acting as a personal guarantor – a pivotal moment in our history. This selfless act embodies the essence of his commitment and dedication.
Mr. Wong was also instrumental in shaping the social service sector, working alongside the late President S.R. Nathan during the formative years of the Social Service Centre, the predecessor to the National Council of Social Service (NCSS). His vision and commitment to the welfare of Singapore’s vulnerable communities serve as an inspiration to us all.
We extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Wong’s family and loved ones during this time of grief. We also express our heartfelt gratitude for his remarkable and dedicated service.
Mr. Wong’s legacy will continue to guide us as we strive to serve and impact all members of the community. May he rest in peace.
