March Highlights – Community Service Programmes

  • As part of the Project Empowerment initiative, we kicked off our first session of Y Food of Love on 3rd March 2018, with a group of 44 volunteers comprised of APSN Centre for Adults trainees and Uni-Y SMU students. The programme aims to provide a platform for special needs individuals to use their skills to give back to society. Together, the volunteers baked muffins and distributed them to elderly tenants living in rental flats in Macpherson, along with goodie bags containing household essentials.

  • On 24 March 2018, Y STARS was invited to perform for Sengkang South Little Entrepreneurs Bazaar 2018, an event graced by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Apart from entertaining the crowds with a dance, our Y STARS also managed a booth in collaboration with YMCA SCC, in which they sold artwork such as postcards, bookmarks and paper mache giraffes created during the Y Arts Challenge programme.

  • For Y Outing @ Blue Cross on 31 March 2018, we brought 20 beneficiaries to  Marina Barrage for a kite-flying activity. With the help of their volunteer pairs, the buddies first decorated their kites using crayons and markers, before proceeding to the green roof to join the Saturday masses. Despite the hot weather, the buddies were eager to get their kites in the air and surprisingly, some of them proved better than the volunteers at doing so!
