Little Women; Big Dreams: YMCA Charity Movie Night 2020
Some 400 guests gathered in support of families in need at the YMCA Charity Movie Night. Held on 8 January 2020, the event raised $40,000 for the YMCA Financial Assistance and Capability for Employment Scheme (FACES), which aids families in need and sustains employment programmes for persons with special needs.
The event was graced by Ms Reed Liriano, Resource Coordination Assistant, Public Affairs Section, U.S. Embassy Singapore. Alongside other distinguished guests, she attended the exclusive screening of “Little Women”, a retelling of the 1868 novel by Louisa May Alcott. It starred acts including Emma Watson, Meryl Streep and Laura Dern.
In her speech, Ms Reed Liriano reminded attendees of the importance of treating others with kindness, and that the community is stronger when united despite individual differences.
The night was truly representative of that spirit as guests also included clients from other programmes, such as YMCA Project Bridge and ELEVATE. YMCA Project Bridge strengthens out-of-school youth through its Vocational and Soft Skills Programme that equips them with work skills such as baking, web design, culinary arts or make-up. ELEVATE is a programme that encourages ITE students to use skills they learned in their course of study in innovative ways to benefit the society at large. It was heart-warming as individuals from all backgrounds came together in support of YMCA FACES and its less privileged beneficiaries.
The YMCA would like to express sincere thanks to Shaw Organisation, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Ms Reed Liriano, all guests and partners for making this event a success!
