June Highlights – Community Service Programmes
- On 6th June 2018, 444 volunteers from various schools and organisations took to the streets to raise funds as part of YMCA’s annual Flag Day appeal. To make donation more convenient for an increasingly tech savvy population, cashless payment through NETS Pay and FavePay was incorporated for the first time. The amount raised during Flag Day will go into funding local elderly community service programmes.
- On 22nd June 2018, we brought 40 children from Campus Impact and YMCA SCC @ Simei for a Y Outing to Singapore Zoo, sponsored by Shopback. To kick off the outing, the children and Shopback volunteers created paper plate animal masks before sitting down to watch the Rainforest Fights Back Show, an educational programme that highlights the diversity and skills of various rainforest animals. Afterwards, the group spent the afternoon together exploring the zoo.
- From 29th June to 1st July, we held our 43rd Y Camp Challenge with 77 students from Grace Orchard School and 87 youth volunteers comprising of befrienders and committee members. The camp was jam-packed with fun and challenging activities, including rock climbing and high rope elements at Yishun SAFRA Adventure Centre, and competitive pool games at Yishun Swimming Complex.
