April Highlights – Community Service Programmes

  • Sponsored by Barclays, we organised a Y Makan Fellowship on 18th April 2018, which served 40 elderly beneficiaries from Care Corner Seniors Activity Centre. As part of our Impacting Lives with Technology initiative, the session introduced a new digital segment in which the elderly groups first learned how to use smartphones and tablets, then played a mass quiz using the game-based education platform, Kahoot. The quiz featured questions on healthy living, interspersed with questions on old Singapore familiar to the elderly.

 Y Arts Challenge

  • On 7th April 2018, our Y STARS had loads of fun experimenting with tie-dye art along with 27 volunteers from Lingjack and 11 public volunteers. The Y Arts Challenge session, sponsored by Lingjack, involved participants tying and dipping pieces of cloth into dyes of different colours to produce unique patterns. The Y STARS also enjoyed interacting with the volunteers over lunch, while partaking in a sumptuous feast provided by our corporate partner.

  • On 13th April 2018, we organised a Y Food of Love session for elderly beneficiaries from Peace Connect Seniors Activity Centre. Nine volunteers from Credit Suisse along with 10 public volunteers baked pandan muffins for 80 elderly residents staying in rental flats in Toa Payoh. The volunteers also distributed household essentials such as soap, dishwashing liquid and detergent.
