Eng Cheong was formerly the CEO (International) of Surbana Jurong Group, a planning, design and engineering consultancy which provides total solutions for urbanisation, industrialisation and infrastructure development. Prior to that, he was CEO of International Enterprise Singapore (2011 – 2015), CEO of the Competition Commission of Singapore (2008-2010) and Director-General of Singapore Customs (2004-2007).  He had also worked in was also in Economic Development Board,  Monetary Authority of Singapore, and  the then Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports.

In addition to serving in the YMCA Board, Eng Cheong also serves as a Council member of NUS Business School’s China Business Centre, Vice President of the Singapore Manufacturing Federation, and a Lien Fellow with the Lien Ying Chow Legacy Fellowship.

Eng Cheong holds a Bachelor of Science, (Second Upper Honours, Economics) from National University of Singapore and Masters of Science (Economics) from the London School of Economics & Political Science.
