764 Volunteers Raise $79,000 at YMCA Flag Day

The YMCA of Singapore would like to thank all 764 volunteers and our countless donors for supporting YMCA Flag Day 2019.

We raised about $79,000 which will go towards sustaining YMCA’s community service programmes for seniors.

We would especially like to thank all our first-time flag sellers for choosing to take the plunge and serve with us, and our YMCA special needs staff, who also volunteered their time.

First-time flag seller Nagaraj, who also volunteers for the YMCA Y Arts Challenge programme, served with his wife on flag day.

“It is the first time in my life selling flags. It feels good actually!” –  Nagaraj, YMCA volunteer.

Shanmuganathan said he walked about 8km selling flags but was happy to do it and that it was good exercise.

“One day, I will be old too. I think it is important to help. It feels good to be able to help. It is a blessing to be able to help others and I want to bless other people.” –  Shanmuganathan, YMCA housekeeping staff.

“I am not tired. I feel good helping out!” – Yan Tong, YMCA Y Café staff, who volunteered his time and tirelessly pounded the pavement to sell flags.
