Organisations embrace CSR at YMCA Proms @ the Park

Saturday, 25 June 2011 - Nine corporations and non-profit organisations mobilised their staff to befriend the less privileged for a day through a mega concert and picnic at the Botanic Gardens.  Organised by the YMCA of Singapore, YMCA Proms @ the Park seeks to bring cheer to beneficiaries through various stage performances and befriending by volunteers.

The programme also facilitates corporations to embrace corporate social responsibility and engage their staff in volunteering to serve the less privileged in a meaningful way.

In all, over 1,000 volunteers and beneficiaries were present at the event, which was graced by MG (NS) Chan Chun Sing, Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports and Minister of State of for Information, Communication and the Arts.

The participating organisations included Bridgestone Tyre Sales Singapore Pte Ltd, Citi Singapore, ESRI Singapore Pte Ltd, Intellectual Ventures Asia Pte Ltd, International Y's Men's Club of Singapore (Alpha Chapter), Lubrizol Southeast Asia (Pte) Ltd, Lourve Design Associates Pte Ltd, MediaCorp Pte Ltd and New Creation Church.

Mr Shin Mukaikubo, Managing Director, Bridgestone Tyre Sales Singapore said: "Our goal at Bridgestone is 'Serving Society with Superior Quality' and Corporate Social Responsibility activities rank high in our company policy. We partnered YMCA for Y Movies last year. We were impressed that the event was so well organised for beneficiaries. Hence we decided to participate in Y Proms to further serve the less fortunate and to provide them with unforgettable memories. The event also enabled our staff to bond amongst themselves and with the beneficiaries. Thank you YMCA for the arrangements and the opportunity to participate at Y Proms! Bridgestone looks forward to partnering you for future events."

NTUC Fairprice Foundation Ltd, Eagle Eye Centre Pte Ltd and Yeap Medical Supplies Pte Ltd also supported the event by making donations in kind for the beneficiaries.

About YMCA Proms @ the Park

To develop the capabilities of the social service sector and mobilise resources through corporate volunteerism, YMCA provides platforms for corporations to engage in corporate social responsibility, thereby developing sustainable community partnerships. Since 2002, we have worked with several corporations such as Citigroup, Credit-Suisse, DHL, PricewaterhouseCoopers and many others to serve the community.

In 2007, YMCA inaugurated YMCA Proms @ the Park, a community outreach programme that brings corporations and voluntary welfare organisations together. YMCA Proms @ the Park comprises of a concert and picnic in the park that brings cheer to beneficiaries through various types of performing arts and interaction with volunteers. YMCA Proms @ the Park also facilitates corporations to embrace corporate social responsibility and engage their staff in volunteering to serve the less privileged in a meaningful way.

Calling all Corporations!

Embrace Corporate Social Responsibility through YMCA Proms @ the Park and enhance your corporate image!

Here's how you can be involved:

- Commit 10 to 20 staff to volunteer as befrienders and host 20 beneficiaries from a selected voluntary welfare organisation on the day of the event. Buses will be provided and the volunteers are required to pick-up the beneficiaries before the event as well as to send them back to their respective Homes and agencies after the event.

- Contribute $1000 to cover the costs of food, goodie bags cost and transportation for the beneficiaries and staff volunteers.
