YMCA of Singapore has been serving the less privileged through the YMCA-Tan Chin Tuan Community Service Programmes. These are structured and sustained programmes which are organised to bring cheer to beneficiaries, especially the intellectually and physically challenged, the elderly, under-privileged and abused children, the hearing impaired, and the poor.
In 2016, YMCA mobilised 3,537 volunteers who dedicated more than 51,653 hours of community service worth $1.03 million* to touch lives and lift spirits of 3,156 beneficiaries from 42 organisations in 75 locations.
Every year, YMCA will require close to $2 million to fund these 16 programmes and 335 activities. With the economic crisis, fundraising has been more challenging.
YMCA Giving Gala, has always been a main source of funds raised for 5 of these programmes, Y Camp Challenge, Y Arts Challenge, Y Food of Love, Y Dance Outreach and Y Outing. This year, we aim to raise $300,000 from Giving Gala.
All funds raised will go a long way in contributing towards YMCA’s efforts to develop the “heartware” for Singapore through its programme and service infrastructure, build a resilient and caring society through sustainable community engagement programmes and nurture socially responsible community champions who can positively impact society. The beneficiaries can also be assured that the YMCA programmes which they always look forward to participating in can continue.
