YMCA Opera Treats - Synopsis

YMCA Opera Treats is a YMCA – Tan Chin Tuan Community Service Programme which serves to further our continuing effort to serve the needy and less advantaged community, across cultures and values in our metropolitan society. The inaugural event was organized on Aug 17 2009 and aims to address the needs of our aging nation where intergenerational initiatives and programme platforms provide enjoyable and engaging opportunities for the younger generations and the elderly to care for each other in the community.

The Cantonese opera troupe, Fung Ngai Cantonese Opera Troupe (峰兿粤剧团), was invited from Hong Kong and performed for the needy elderly, and youth on 17th August 2009 (Monday) from 3pm to 5:30pm at Kreta Ayer People’s Theatre. 250 youth volunteers from various schools and institutions of higher learning hosted and befriended 750 elderly beneficiaries from 12 VWOs, self help groups and residents from one-room dwellings.
